With a global pandemic changing how we meet and how we learn, the Globalization and Localization Association (GALA) is committed to serving the professional language community in new ways. Like so many organizations, GALA has pivoted to offer its annual conference in the virtual realm. The online format shows great promise in being more inclusive and more interactive. Without the barriers of cost and travel, we can welcome a more diverse audience and invite new perspectives. We want you in the conversation and we hope you’ll join us this September!
As part of its programming, GALA Connected will feature an interpreting track focused primarily on interpreting technologies and the future of the interpreting profession. You can learn about how neural networks trained on the voices of interpreters and speakers can preserve nuances in cadence, tone, and meaning. We’ll discuss the role of automation in interpreting services and where AI fits in (or does it?). We’ll talk about the future of employment classification in light of new legislation and how professionals can adapt and retool … and much more. With 6 sessions focused on interpreting and a few dozen others on other relevant industry topics, there’s bound to be something you can learn, and people you can learn from.
Registration is now open for GALA Connected, 22-25 September 2020. We hope to “see” you there! [link for registration is https://www.gala-global.org/conference/gala-connected-2020/about-gala-connected]
