In partnership with Fierce Healthcare, Boostlingo fielded a survey to examine how healthcare leaders view AI interpreting in 2026: the operational pressure driving interest, the workflows where AI is already acceptable, and the proof it takes to build trust.

Inside, you will find 123 responses on adoption barriers and confidence builders, and a practical roadmap for usage.

Why This Report Now

Healthcare organizations are being asked to do two things at once: control the cost of language services and reach more patients, in more languages, across more touchpoints. AI interpreting has the potential to reduce the friction healthcare teams face.

The AI Interpreting in Healthcare 2026 Report draws on survey data from 123 healthcare respondents to answer questions that provide guidance for healthcare teams to build successful pilot plans and a blueprint for language service providers on how to offer this technology successfully.

Where is AI Medical Interpreting Acceptable?

Roughly 8 in 10 healthcare leaders accept AI for scheduling and billing, with human interpreter backup. But that share falls sharply for emergency, inpatient, and emotionally sensitive care.

The report maps acceptance across encounter types, so leaders can see which workflows are realistic starting points and which call for a human interpreter by default.

What are the Barriers to AI Adoption?

The top barrier is confidence that AI interpreting can perform well in real-world scenarios. 59% of respondents picked it as a top barrier, indicating that the worry that a mistranslation could slip through before anyone catches it in front of a patient outweighs compliance or pricing concerns.

What Builds Trust in AI Interpreting?

Leaders point to a consistent set of proof: 50% said real-time captions and transcripts, another 50% said quality benchmarks against human interpreters, a clear human escalation path, and audit trails.

The report shows how to assemble this proof stack and match each objection to the evidence that answers it.

How do we Pilot AI Interpreting?

Openness to AI interpretation was 95%, but readiness to pilot was lower at 61%. The report closes the gap with a use-case risk checklist and a pilot roadmap that guide an organization from a lower-risk pilot to embedded access, with metrics to show whether it is working.

How to use this Report

For healthcare teams, use this report to build the case for change internally, determine where AI interpretation fits into your workflows, and plan a pilot with a step-by-step roadmap. It pairs survey data on cost, delays, and adoption barriers with a risk checklist and pilot framework you can apply directly to your organization.

For language service providers, this report shows what healthcare buyers want: hybrid coverage with visible human backup, proof that AI holds up in real conversations, and pricing built around total value rather than the lowest bid. Use it to shape your product roadmap, sharpen your sales pitch, and strengthen your case in contract conversations.
